The Blood Of The Innocents – Album Of The Year

A more professional operation would have had this posted within minutes of it happening… Well, we perhaps appreciate whicky slightly more than we appreciate professionalism, so here it is…

At approximately 22:50 on Saturday 15 November, in Belfast’s Mandela Hall, the second album by Robyn G Shiels, The Blood Of The Innocents, won the Northern Ireland Music Prize 2014.

Recorded in 2008 but not released until this year, the album beat some serious competition and caught us all a little by surprise; not least Robyn who was waiting at the bar to buy a friend a pint when the announcement was made.

Almost miraculously he found his way to the stage and a little embarrassed accepted the award. In his brief, and extremely unprepared, acceptance “speech” Robyn made a point of thanking the one man he felt most deserved it – Ben McCauley of Start Together Studio.

Now, we would like to thank the Oh Yeah Centre and Stuart Bailie, the Northern Ireland Music Prize and its panel, and each and every person who has bought the album and come to a show.

We are a little overwhelmed, are still collecting our thoughts, and are most definitely done with whisky (for now)…
